Location and Uses

Time Blocks are dark blue Blocks with the Symbol of Time carved on them.^[3][4] They are used in various puzzles in Ocarina of Time and can be displaced, summoned, or returned to their original location by playing the "Song of Time". Depending on the context, the blocks are used as platforms or as a means of obstructing entrances. When activated with the "Song of Time," a cylinder of radiant blue light surrounds the object.

Time Blocks function as obstacles in the following locations:

• In Dampé's grave, a Time Block barricades the exit, which he references after his race with Link before departing.^[5] The removal of the block opens a passageway leading to the upper level of the Kakariko Windmill and a Piece of Heart.
• In the Forest Temple, a Time Block obstructs a door to a northwestern courtyard. Its removal is required to obtain the Dungeon Map and a Small Key.
• In the Fire Temple, a Time Block is half-embedded into the ground on a raised ledge. The "Song of Time" must be used to move the block and reveal a Floor Switch underneath that frees the last Goron prisoner. The block's altered position also acts as a platform to climb back to the upper level.
• In the Water Temple, a Time Block appears in the room containing the Longshot. It blocks a hole in the ground that leads to the top of the serpentine-shaped river room.
• In the Spirit Temple, two Time Blocks appear in the room with the rolling boulders and the Silver Rupees, each blocking an alcove containing a Gold Skulltula and a Silver Rupee respectively. The two Time Blocks are not present simultaneously: when one is summoned away, the other is summoned in, and vice versa.

If Navi turns green and flies over to an empty area, the "Song of Time" may be played to summon a Time Block. Such instances occur in the following locations:

• In the Ice Cavern, a Time Block can be summoned in the Silver Rupee puzzle room. From the Blue Fire alcove, the block can be used as a platform to access three previously-floating Red Rupees.
• In the Fire Temple, a Time Block can be summoned in front of the northern door in the bridge room. Link can climb the block to access a room containing a Gold Skulltula. The "Song of Time" can be played again to remove the Time Block and regain access to the lower door.
• In the Shadow Temple, after taking the ferry ride and crossing the chasm, a Time Block can be summoned to reach a higher ledge with a Heart on it.
• In the Gerudo's Training Ground, a pair of Time Blocks can be summoned in the lava room with the Silver Rupees to reach the Small Key. This also serves as an alternate way to reach the central room of the dungeon, minimizing the amount of Small Keys used.
• In the Spirit Temple, a Time Block can be summoned in the room where Link fights three Anubis and a Beamos as an adult. This can be used to lure the Anubis into the ring of fire that appears when pressing the Floor Switch in the same room.
• In Ganon's Castle, a Time Block can be summoned in the ventilation room to make it easier to grab the Silver Rupees, although this is entirely optional.
